Soutbourne ASBO: Bournemouth council to curb late-night bad behaviour
BOURNEMOUTH council has won an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) over late night bad behaviour in part of Southbourne.
Residents have said the area is suffering from rough sleepers, too many off-licences and too much drinking after dark.
Ward councillor Chris Mayne told the Echo: “Southbourne is a nice area and we are not too keen on the problems drinking is causing.
“I certainly have concerns about the sale of alcohol at night.”
The problem is said to be around Southbourne Grove.
Residents outlined their concerns in 10 letters of objection to an unsuccessful attempt to stop Southbourne Fried Chicken selling alcohol with food.
Frank Bayes wrote: “I cannot see this will do anything other than exacerbate the drinking and rough sleeper problems we already have in Southbourne Grove.”
Alison Hunt described being “terrorised” at a bus stop by a man repeatedly smashing an empty bottle against the shelter.
She wrote: “Please consider my pleas as a single woman who does not want to lock herself in at home to avoid more drunken people at large in a place that is otherwise delightful.”
Jacqueline Hubbard wrote: “Fishermans Walk and Southbourne Grove suffer from public drinking which generates noise, anti-social behaviour and extra rubbish.”
Bournemouth council said it was working with Dorset Police to tackle the problems in the area and urged people to report anti-social behaviour on 01202 451 433.
Andy Williams, the council’s safer and stronger communities manager, said: “In response to concerns raised by residents and the local community, we have taken action. “Recently we attained an ASBO on one member of a known group, and we are currently gathering evidence to take further enforcement action on two other members of the same group.”

If those who hang about are under 18, what else is there to do other than hang about outside? It's not like the young people own nice homes where they can drink some wine in peace. Southbourne would be dead at night without people hanging about - nothing wrong with hanging about having a kebab and nothing wrong with having a pint or two (unless your underage).
.
Are these people who complain such inocent snowflakes that they would melt at the sight of someone in a hoody? It seems like a bunch of middle class posh folk complaining people who are just not the same as they are and dont behave exactly like they do....
.
These days to get away with bad behaviour it seems you need to be in some sort of power.

People drink at night - but it would be more of a concern to sell alcohol at 8am in the morning lol

One ASBO granted and evidence being gathered for two or three more hardly signifies that there is a problem.

Time was when we had low crime, no drug addiction hardly and full employment based on proper jobs, i.e. a healthy national condition.
Then there was a sense of duty; now it is all about rights and instant self-gratification, nurtured by the BBC and the hopeless police.
Previous generations knew perfectly well the human potential for folly and had a sensible culture and justice ideas.
Now we have low educational standards and the tiny CHIMPS on the streets to negotiate with the drug pushers. That is a police acronym for those who don't know for the Community Support Officers - "can't help in most policing situations."
Prisons used to be tough and the food worse than for the school children. Magistrates would sentence drunks to 6 months hard labour.
The ASBO method is a way of ducking the real problem just like the electonic leg tag and giving bail to serious offenders.
If society wants to improve iteself, there must be a return to common sense, bobbies on the beat and proper penalties.
