FRIENDS said they would never forget Mr McFarlane’s smile and described him as a ‘legend,’ ‘awesome’ and a ‘good guy.’ Daniel Quinauot said Mr McFarlane was ‘ten out of ten’.
He said: “He was awesome.”
He added: “He was a mega guy.
“He was a lovable rogue.”
Neil Tucker from Portland said: “Once you were a friend he would do anything for you.”
He added: “He’s going to be missed.”
Mr Tucker said that nothing ever phased or bothered Mr McFarlane and that he was ‘such a good guy.’ He said: “He was absolutely fantastic. One of the most genuine men you would ever meet.
“He was a good, good guy.”
Donna Lynham, mother of fisherman Peter Lynham who was lost at sea five years ago, remembered Mr McFarlane.
She said: “He was just an amazing bloke.
“He was a lovable rogue.”
She added: “He worked hard and played hard and loved his girls to bits.”
Hayley Guille came from Guernsey to represent the fishing community on the Island who knew the crew.
Another friend, who did not wish to be named, said: “He was a good lad. A lot of us have known him in different parts of his life. He was the same right from teenage years to when he went. That’s why we are all here for him.”
MP's condolences
SOUTH Dorset MP Richard Drax was at the funeral.
He said: “It was a very sad day marked by a moving service.
“The family behaved with huge courage and dignity.
“The fact that the church was so full with so many members of the community really says it all and marks how special our fishing fleet is and what it means to the people of Weymouth and Portland.”
