WOULD you like to help pull a 30,000kg Boeing 737-300 and raise money for charity at the same time?

Teams and individuals are being urged to get involved in the Dorset Plane Pull at Bournemouth Helicopters, Bournemouth Airport, on Sunday August 8 raising money for Motor Neurone Disease Association and the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.

Organisers hope to get at least 20 teams to take part in the Echo-backed event and raise at least £10,000.

Last year’s event had 11 teams and raised £7,000.

Teams of around 20 people will each attempt to pull Titan Airways’ distinctive Boeing 737-300 a distance of 50 metres.

People can apply as teams or individuals who will be assigned a team.

There is a prize for the fastest pull or people can take part for fun and are encouraged to wear fancy-dress.

In addition there will be a barbecue, hog roast, raffle, stalls and activities at the event which kicks off at 10am.

Those who have signed up to the plane pull already include teams from Springfield Leisure club of Wareham, Castle Cover Insurance of Poole, Macmillan Care Unit at Christchurch and Oakmedians Rugby club.

The oldest individual so far to have signed up to the plane pull is 72-year-old Les Reed who also took part last year.

Richard Griffin, an organiser, urged as many people as possible to support the event.

He said: “We are encouraging as many people as possible to come and show their support even if they are not pulling.

“We are trying to make it one of the county’s biggest events. If the weather is nice we expect between 500 and 1000 people to turn up.”

Dorset Plane Pull representatives will be drumming up support for the event outside Marks and Spencer at Castlepoint Shopping Centre all day on July 31 and August 1.
