POOLE Runners' Kyle Hackett was the star of the show with a triple-gold haul at the Dorset Schools' Championships.

The Blandford School student stormed clear to take the 3000m in a time of 9:04 and ran a personal best of 4.24:3 to win the 1500m.

He was then pressed into emergency action in the 4x100m relay and rounded off a golden afternoon by helping Blandford home.

Jon Boyle upset Yeovil's Andrew Mapstone to scorch to victory in the senior 400m.

Corfe Hills student Boyle blasted out off the traps to run a stunning first 200m and hung on to record a personal best of 50.5s.

Nic Phillips, of Purbeck School, was a winner of the senior boys' hurdles in 15.6 seconds, but a more satisfying performance came in the shot putt.

His throw of 13.67 metres qualified him for his third English Schools' Championship, although it was only good enough for silver on the day.

Other English Schools' qualifying performances came from Ryan Trew in the Inter boys' 3000m and Maria Seager in the Inter girls' pole vault, both from Corfe Hills and both clear winners of their events.

Blandford's Neil Chivers and Khalidur Rahman won a sprint double in the Inter boys' 100m and 200m in impressive times.

n Results of Poole Runners athletes will appear in Saturday's Daily Echo.

SEAN SMASHES RECORD

SEAN Hogan smashed the race record as he led a Poole Runners 1-2-3 in the Corfe Mullen 5K.

The Corfe Hills sixth-former, who also plays football for Poole Town, showed he will be fit for the start of the season by dominating from the off.

Club-mate Ryan Trew hung on gamely for second place in 16:18 while another GCSE student, Torsten Chandler, showed good finishing speed to finish in 16:33.

Rob Ineson, 14, meanwhile, put in arguably the performance of the day when he clocked 18.27 in the 5k, having expected to only run the mile.

In the women's event, 15-year-old Zoe Lamb was third overall in a time of 21:04.

In the junior one-mile race there was no challenge as local teenager Jack Partridge, who was ninth in the UK Cross-Country Championships in March, was in complete control throughout.

Nicole Bissett took the girl's race with Danni Shrosbree was a clear second.
