HUNDREDS of people put their best feet forward to raise cash for Sport Relief.
Staff and pupils at Budmouth Technology College in Weymouth have been going Sport Relief crazy all week.
A variety of fundraisers led by the School Council has seen teachers have their legs waxed, pupils show off their talents in a contest based on a TV show, and brainboxes face a fiery question master for a Weakest Link-type quiz event.
The highlight of the week came yesterday when shocked pupils watched as police officers stormed into the main hall and ‘arrested’ vice principal Neil ‘Doc’ Hardisty.
They breathed a sigh of relief when it was revealed to be a stunt although Mr Hardisty later announced his retirement from teaching after 31 years.
There were plenty of willing candidates ready to jump into the saddle as the Dorchester Volunteer Centre set up three exercise bikes outside County Hall in Dorchester and asked people to pedal a mile for Sport Relief.
Dorset County Council county sports officer David Franks stepped up to cycle the first mile as a council staff and other volunteers peddled a combined total of 120 Miles and helped raise over £150.
Deputy mayor of Weymouth and Portland Paul Kimber was one of those to step up to the plate and cycle for a mile.
He said: “There is a serious side to Sports Relief and its trying to get us all to take part in sport, it’s a fantastic day.
“The Volunteer Centre staff were out in the rain encouraging everybody, it was fantastic.” Youngsters from Sunninghill School were also put through their paces as they took on their own Sport Relief mile, setting off from the school and running through Dorchester town centre.
The wet weather didn’t stop staff at Magna Housing Association staff enjoying themselves for the Sport Relief cause as they took part in a host of events including a sports day, Wii fit, raffle, quiz and the ‘Magna Mile’.
Children, staff and parents (and grandparents!) set out from Wool CE VA First School in some rather miserable weather – but in excellent spirits – to walk a mile to raise money for Sports Relief.
And 75 all dressed in various shades and styles of red – accompanied by the staff from Wool CE VA First School, walked a mile round the village of Wool.
