FUNDRAISERS are preparing to step out in style for Sport Relief.
A series of fun events is taking place at schools, sports clubs and businesses across the area.
In Dorchester around 140 youngsters from Sunning-hill School will be joined by staff as they take on a mile run around the county town today.
The pupils will be setting off from South Walks at 3pm.
The Dorset Volunteer Centre is also setting up an exercise bike outside County Hall from 11.30am this morning, and staff at Magna Housing will be holding a series of fun events at the TA Centre in Poundbury Road.
Budmouth Technology College will be rounding off a week of events with a special Budmouth’s Got Talent competition.
Secondary and primary schools in Weymouth, Dorchester and Bridport are also holding fundraisers with hundreds of children taking part.
Meanwhile, a 30-strong team of kayakers will paddle three miles along the coast from Ringstead to Lulworth Cove tomorrow.
They are hoping to raise at least £300 for Sport Relief – as well as clearing four local beaches of litter.
The ‘Paddle ’n’ Pick’ event has been put together by Overcombe firm Second Wind Watersports.
The participants will clean Ringstead Bay Beach, Angel Bay, Man of War Bay and Lulworth Cove.
Each will be given a bag to fill with rubbish – and rewarded with free fish and chips at Lulworth.
They are being asked to come up with at least £10 sponsorship, so organisers hope to raise over £300.
Event sponsors include Ringstead Estates, the Weld Estate, Finley’s in Lulworth and the Isle of Portland Canoe Club.
And Redlands Sports Hub is set to host a Sport Relief Mile on Sunday.
Ben Heath, college sports development officer said: “The Weymouth College Mile is set to be an amazing day. It’s fantastic that so many people are gathering together to show their support. But we want this to be the best event yet, so we still need more people to raise their game and join us to raise plenty of cash.”
You can choose your own distance challenge from one, three or six miles. That means, from teeny tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock, there’s something for everyone on the big day. By getting sponsored to do the Sport Relief Mile you’re helping to make a big difference. The money you raise will be spent by Comic Relief to help transform lives here in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
