Children’s charity Barnardo’s has completed the formation of a special team to help Dorset parents.
Last year Barnardo’s South West was awarded a £1.5million, three-year contract to establish a Parent Support Adviser Service to support children’s learning.
Nearly 1,000 parents have already been supported, including one-to-one support for almost 300 families, but this is expected to rise further now staff have been recruited to all positions.
More than 20 project workers have been given their own areas of responsibility, including Weymouth and Portland, Dorchester, Beaminster, Bridport, Gillingham, Lyme Regis, Purbeck, Shaftesbury, Sherborne and Sturminster Newton.
Funded by the Government through Dorset County Council, the PSA service works with local schools and other agencies to support parents with their children’s problems.
The central office is based at Poundbury Business Centre, Dorchester.
