Car owner 'sickened' by Chickerell vandal attack

6:00pm Tuesday 16th March 2010

THE OWNER of a car hit with a plant pot and splashed with paint by vandals has been left sickened by the attack.

Ian Gillingham, 32, woke up on Sunday morning to be told by neighbours that his car had been targeted during the night and left covered in wood stain and black and red paint.

His limited edition green Mazda MX5 Roadster was parked in his next door neighbour’s drive in Pugmill Lane, Chickerell.

He said: “I felt sick when I first saw it.

He added: “I’m not the sort of person to upset anyone and people would normally speak to me to my face so whoever it was must be a coward. It was not nice for my neighbour to see it on his driveway.”

PC Jim Robinson, of Weymouth police, said two men took off along a nearby alley into The Bindells afterwards.

He said: “It may be that someone recalls seeing two men running away from this area or perhaps carrying tins of paint during the early hours of Sunday morning.

He said the two men are white, aged in their 20s, between 5ft 10in and 6ft and of medium build. One of them was wearing a light coloured jacket and carrying a white bag with the other wearing a darker jacket.
