FIRST aider Ian Morgan from Wey-mouth will be running the London Marathon in aid of St John Ambulance.
This will be the first time the 29-year-old, who lives in Buddleia Close, has completed a marathon, but he said he was ready to take on the challenge for the first aid charity.
Mr Morgan, who works on the flood defence team for the Environment Agency based in Dorchester, recently finished his first aid training with St John Ambulance.
He completed a three-day course at the charity’s training office in Poundbury.
The keen runner said he felt that St John Ambulance was a worthy cause to support because without the work of the charity, and the first aiders they train, many events could not go ahead.
He said: “I am delighted to have this opportunity to raise funds for St John Ambulance.
“No-one should suffer for the lack of trained first aiders but fundraising opportunities are needed.
“Raising cash by running in the London Marathon will help St John Ambulance to continue its training with volunteers and youth members.
“I have done quite a few half marathons and I do lots of off road running, but this will be my first full marathon and my first run for charity.
“I started running a couple of years ago when I decided I needed to get fit and it’s about time I put it to some good use.
“It is going to be quite a challenge but I am more excited about it than I am nervous.
“Training for the marathon is hard but raising the sponsorship is even harder.”
He added that he hoped to raise £2,000 and so far he has raised around £400.
St John Ambulance has 354 trained adult first aiders in Dorset who save lives at over 1,200 events throughout the county each year.
