POLICE have launched an investigation after the body of a teenager was discovered in a burned out car.
Firefighters made the grim discovery after rushing to attend reports of a car Fire in a remote country road in Dorset.
Investigators believe the death of the 19-year-old Shaftesbury woman was a tragic accident.
Crime scene investigators and other specialist officers sealed off the area at Stalbridge Common while enquiries were ongoing.
Firemen attended the scene and extinguished the blaze in the car at Hargrove on Tuesday, just after 9am.
A Dorset Police spokesman said: “Dorset Fire and Rescue Service attended and firefighters extinguished the fire – a body was found inside the vehicle.
“Our thoughts are with her next of kin, who have been notified. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.”
The coroner has been informed and Dorset Police have not issued a witness appeal. The woman has not yet been formally identified.
