A dedicated council worker has delivered housing benefit cheques by hand to save hard-up people missing out because of the postal strike.
Catherine Preston, the Travelling Officer at North Dorset District Council, made deliveries to 17 addresses from near Hazelbury Bryan to Gillingham.
Ms Preston travels across the district in the normal course of her duties, visiting claimants at home to help with benefits issues and was able to make the deliveries without incurring further costs to the council.
A council spokesman said the authority hoped Ms Preston and her team would continue to make deliveries while the strikes continue “where it makes sense”.
