SOCIAL housing chiefs have been forced to take down a controversial bollard outside a block of flats in Wimborne.

East Dorset Housing Association (EDHA) has been ordered to remove the “lift and lock” bollard from the turning circle of Cuthbury Close.

People living in the close, including mum, Kelly Pike, 22, claimed it made temporary parking impossible.

“About 10 people came out to complain while they were putting up the bollard. We all use the turning circle to drop off shopping,” she said.

“If I can’t park there, I would have to pay in the Old Road car park and make three or four trips.”

District councillor Marilyn Osner took up the residents’ plight. Dorset County Council’s Andrew Randall said he visited Cuthbury Close as Mrs Osner’s request, and found the bollard “obstructing the public highway”.

A spokesman for EDHA said the bollard had been put up to try and stop a persistent problem with parking in an area designed for deliveries and emergency vehicles.

“A bollard was erected in the turning area to prevent cars being parked there but, despite EDHA owning the land, we have since been ordered by the county and district councils to remove it,” the spokesman said.
