UPDATED: Serious accident closes A351 between the Bakers Arms and Holton Heath

A “VERY serious” collision between a car and a motorbike has closed one of Dorset's main roads.

The smash occurred on the A351 outside the Romany Works Business Park at Holton Heath, just south of the Bakers Arms roundabout, just after 12.20pm today (July 6).

It is thought the motorcycle was in collision with a white Nissan Micra close to the business park entrance.

An air ambulance was required to lift the rider of the motorcycle to hospital.

It is believed the motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries.

The stretch of the A351 between the Bakers Arms and the Holton Heath trading park roundabout is closed.

It is expected the road will remain shut for some hours while an investigation is carried out.

How does this picture, which is more than likely a file picture from a different time and of a different road to the accident, add value to this story?

The picture is probably the Upton Bypass, approaching the Bakers Arms Roundabout. This is where the road is closed west-bound, hence the tailback on the Upton Bypass.

Picture probably txt'd in by a reader, along with the story.

Its the Upton by-pass leading to the Bakers Arms so to be fair it is relevant .

Incidentally, the collision occured at the entrance road to Holton Lee, West of the Romany Business Park. The road is closed from Holton Heath traffic lights up to Bakers Arms.

Just to clarify; the picture with this story was taken today by an Echo photographer.

So you agree, the picture on this story is not relevant.

Thanks for your comments

The poor biker has been airlifted to hospital.

But still the road will be shut for hours.
Why? So the police can try their hardest to find a reason to prosecute either the car driver or bike rider.

According to the Police accidents rarely happen. If you try hard enough you can find someone to blame.

Except of course when the Police are at fault - then it is always an accident

I came through from Dorchester this afternoon, and the west bound traffic was seriously building up on the A35 as in the picture (for Free.Speech's benefit).

As you supposedly or allegedly do not live here FS, the A351 is just at the end of the picture to the right, turning left on to the A351, and the accident is located not far along that road. Hence the tail back.

Hope those injured will be OK, thankfully in good hands. It is good to see we need an Air Ambulance in this County, with no motorways, or not too many major link roads.

I think you will find police do not use the word 'accident' now due to it's meaning.
Police will use the word 'collision' as that does not infer anything other than vehicles have collided.

If one of the motorists is at fault then why should they not be prosecuted...it might be one of your relatives involved one day, then you would probably bleat about the police taking no action.

Police have a duty to investigate a collision, especially if there are life threatening injuries.

Let them get on with their job !!!!

The road are closed for as long as it takes, as once the roads open all potential evidence is gone. There was an 'accident' up north not that long ago, where someone, after killing someone, put them in a car and had a collision to try and make out they were killed that way. If the police had not closed the road, looked at injuries, skid patterns, speed, etc, then the person could quite easily have gotten away with murder.
There a lot of resources needed from around the coundy as well, including csi, accident investigators, and these all take time to get there, as some of them could be tied up at other jobs, especially csi, and may not be free when first requested.
