IN an age of cutbacks in public transport, it’s an unusual story.

Two campaigning Lytchett Minster business people are celebrating their very own transport victory.

David and Joanne Bridgen asked Transdev Yellow Buses to run a link between South Lytchett Manor, Poole Quay and Bournemouth Pier.

The bus operator agreed and now the pair have helped launch the once-a-day number 49 service, which also serves Upton, Hamworthy, Penn Hill and Westbourne.

Joanne said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Yellow Buses has launched this new service.

“We try to be as ‘green’ and environment-friendly as possible. Our guests often ask us about the local public transport and this means they can now enjoy Bournemouth’s beaches without having to take the car.”

Ward councillor Paul Johns also welcomed the service.

He said: “This is a very good addition to local bus service particularly as it links Lytchett Minster, Upton, Hamworthy and Poole.

“I hope as many villagers as possible, as well as guests at South Lytchett Manor, make the most of this new service.”

Jenni Wilkinson, from Yellow Buses, said: “Joanne suggested a direct bus service when we met at a conference on sustainable tourism.

“The new service fits in well with service we already operate for Lytchett Minster School. We’ll be keeping a close check on passenger numbers with a view to extending the service beyond the initial three-month trial period.”

The bus leaves South Lytchett Manor at 09.10, arriving at Bournemouth Pier at 09.50, with the return journey from Bournemouth Pier at 14.45.
