WIMBORNE’S former civic leader has thanked the town’s people for their support during his mayoral year.

Cllr Robin Cook, whose mayoralty ended last week, said his job, and the role of his wife, Sue, as lady mayoress, had been made easier with the help of the Minster town’s residents.

“We were received with kindness wherever we went and we were immensely proud to represent the town of Wimborne Minster,” said Cllr Cook.

Fundraising for Cllr Cook’s chosen charities has raised more than £6,800, with Wimborne in Bloom, The Friends of the Tivoli Theatre, the Wimborne Cine and Video Club, and the Dorset Youth Marching Band among the beneficiaries.

An eco-friendly Christmas lighting scheme championed by the town’s chamber of trade, and the Michael James Music Trust, also benefited from the money raised.

“Our very best wishes go to the incoming mayor, Cllr John Burden, and with his wife, Anne, as mayoress. We are sure they will do a splendid job for Wimborne,” said Cllr Cook.
