WHAT better note to end a sunny Bank Holiday. With more than 50 years spent on stage, Maceo Parker proves there isn’t a better living showman.
Strolling on stage with his winning smile, Maceo and his band effortlessly turned the small theatre into a funk inferno.
Belting out a fluid succession of smooth soul, jazz and funk classics that included Shake Everything You Got, Soul Power, Pass the Peas and a heartfelt cover of Ray Charles’s You Don’t Know Me.
There was even a Shakespear-ean recital courtesy of Parker’s tour manager that descended into a frenetic funk workout.
The spellbinding performance was the epitome of cool, with bandmembers joining in whenever they felt the need to express themselves.
Throughout the night Maceo repeated his message of love and the audience responded by leaving their seats to join him dancing in the aisles.
A special evening that warmed the soul and for a brief moment made the world a better place.
