A SCHOOLBOY who attended an Air Ambulance talk was called on to help his dad in a real life emergency just weeks later.

Callum Baughan, nine, of Blackberry Lane, Mudeford, found his dad unconscious at the bottom of the stairs as he returned home from school.

Remembering advice given to him during a trip around Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance base at Henstridge, Callum dialled 999 and gave the operator the information the paramedics needed.

His sister Katie, 11, who arrived shortly afterwards ran to alert neighbours.

Callum’s dad Rob, 47, was taken to hospital and released the following afternoon.

The talented young footballer was one of 12 youngsters from AFC Bournemouth’s Centre of Excellence taken on a trip to Henstridge after taking part in a sponsored keepy-uppy which raised £650 for the Air Ambulance.

Mum Carol, 46, said: “One of my friends took the phone off Callum thinking they would want to know his address and telephone number but Callum had already told them.

“We are very proud of him and his sister. Callum was as cool as a cucumber.”

Dad Rob said: “I’m really proud of both of them. Callum lives and breathes football and he’s very bright and takes everything in. I don’t really remember a lot about it.”

Callum said: “At first I thought dad was joking. Then I realised that he wasn’t so I phoned 999. It was scary. They asked me lots of questions and then said they were on their way.”

Tracy Bartram, Air Ambulance fundraising co-ordinator, said: “This little boy was so brave. It is good to know that the work we are doing is not just raising awareness, it’s sinking in and these children are learning crucial life-saving skills.”
