THE former Woolworths store in Poole’s Ashley Road could soon have a new mystery owner.

An ‘Under Offer’ sign has been posted on the front of the once iconic shop, which closed in January.

The London-based commercial property consultants who are handling the sale were unavailable for comment, but it could be a matter of months before someone is trading in the Parkstone store again.

Ashley Road Chamber of Commerce chairman Simon Tammam says it is good news someone has shown interest in the outlet.

He said: “It is under offer, but we don’t know from who or from where. There haven’t even been many rumours.

“We are hoping that it will be one of the big names taking over. Anyone to fill up the empty store would be good though.”

Concerns had mounted that the store could become a local eyesore.

Shopper Jenny Davison said: “Someone has already had a go at the glass doors and its starting to look really grubby.

“It was sad to see Woolies go and there was a real worry it could become just another run-down empty shop.

“This would have been a real shame, especially as the people, the traders, have worked hard to make Ashley Road a nice place to shop.

“Hopefully someone will take up the lease sooner rather than later.”

Meanwhile, the former Woolies store in Poole High Street remains vacant but good news could also be on the horizon there.

According to letting agent Sibbett Gregory, several offers are under consideration, but negotiations are very much in the early stages so details will not be released.
