THERE will be a chance to journey back in time and hear tales of bravery, secrecy and betrayal in Purbeck this month.
The Townsend Environmental Study Centre in Swanage is hosting a smugglers’ tales day on Friday, which will give intrigued locals the chance to travel down a quarry shaft and listen to stories of old.
Louise Robinson, of the Purbeck Keystone Project, said: “The outdoor Townsend Centre has developed an exciting and innovative replica of a quarry.
“The magical evening will bring smuggling stories to life – an unforgettable way to learn about the history of smuggling in the area. There are also prizes for best dressed smugglers and pirates, so come in fancy dress and live the experience.”
