A CAREERS officer at a Sherborne school has raised £3,000 for a children’s charity by trekking to base camp at Mount Everest.
Emma Charlton took on the challenge to swell the coffers of Kids Company – a charity helping vulnerable children living in inner cities.
“The trek to base camp was probably the hardest challenge I have ever taken on, but it was also the most rewarding. It was satisfying to know I was raising money for Kids Company.
“The support I have received from the whole school and in particular from the girls in my fundraising team inspired me to keep going, even on the toughest days,” said Emma.
Numerous pupils volunteered to join the fundraising committee for Emma’s challenge and helped to organise a roller disco and a Christmas Fete.
A ‘move-a-mile’ challenge, which involved all pupils and staff, saw fundraisers sponsored to travel a mile in any way they chose.
Some pupils jumped, while others ran backwards.
