Weather permitting, The Great Solent Pedal will take place on Saturday 6th June 2009.

To give us the "easiest" crossing (and therefore greatest chance of survival!), the initial plan is tht we will we will be setting off from Stokes Bay, Gosport at 09.00am aiming to end up on the beach at Ryde, The Isle of Wight.

These plan are subject to change depending on the conditions on the day so keep checking back.

We've been told that for the first hour the tide will push the pedalo from East to West, then from West to East in the second hour.

Apparently the quickest route will be to keep the craft pointing south (not necessarily at our final destination) at all times. We’ll be swept off course then back onto it. At least that's what we've been told, however this could be a hilarious wind up by Mike's brother.

Therefore, if you happen to notice a piece on the news that night about a pedalo becoming marooned off the Shetland islands, that’ll be us!

We will be looked after during our journey by a support rig. Please contact us if you can help with this.

It will be their role to not only maintain radio contact with the harbour master to ensure we don't hit any cross channel ferries, but also to assist us should our pedalo become engulfed by a 25 foot wave.

Time wise, it's currently hard to predict when we will arrive at Ryde. We have been told that in calm, summer weather, it usually takes trained, athletic swimmers around 2 hours.

When you’re talking about two lardy blokes in a pedalo crossing the Solent, it is entirely possible that we could be some time!

Let’s just say that anyone wishing to wave us off at Stokes Bay, you will probably have time to grab a coffee and some lunch, jump on the ferry, spend two weeks on a cruise to Iceland, and still have time to get back to see us arriving at Ryde!
