A COUNCILLOR due to attend the Napoli inquiry said that the clean-up operation last year averted a "major disaster and environmental crisis".
The inquiry into the stricken ship that sank off of the World Heritage Coast in 2007 is due to start next month.
Director for environment at the county council Miles Butler told members of a cabinet meeting at Dorset County Council that a report compiled by the council will be included in the inquiry and contains analysis as well as praise for the workers.
Vice chairman Hilary Cox told the committee she would be attending the inquiry on November 3 in Exeter.
She added: "There are some areas that need addressing but the fact is that the Napoli was dealt with rather well and we haven't suffered any long term damage - a major disaster and environmental crisis was averted."
