We won't appeal

APPEALING against Cameron Mawer's red card would be a waste of time and money according to Weymouth boss John Hollins.

The dismissal was one of several debatable decisions in an incident-packed game at the Wessex Stadium, which saw the Terras fight back from 2-0 down with ten men to capture a fine draw with Cambridge United.

Goals from Chris McPhee and Michael Malcolm completed the amazing turnaround before the U's were denied a late winner by the officials.

It seemed Mark Beesley's effort had already crossed the line when former United man Stephen Reed cleared it to safety but it was not given and the hosts held on.

Reflecting on Mawer's tangle with Felino Jardim and a flurry of other bewildering moments in the game, Hollins said: "There were a lot of incidents and the sending off was like a lot of things where players get tackled and make it look worse than it actually is.

"However, there is no point in appealing. We would just be wasting our time and money.

"Decisions are made and we have to take what decisions we get. That is what we have been asked to do and that is what I will do."

When Lee McEvilly and Beesley put the visitors two up before the interval it looked like there was no way back for the Terras.

Hollins added: "Going two down just before the break was very disappointing. The first was a free-kick into the top corner on 42 minutes from McEvilly, who has the skill to do that, and then they got a second three minutes later.

"It seemed like they had settled for that in the second half so after Cameron got sent off we went 3-3-3 and got at them.

"They still made chances but if you do not go for it you do not get your reward and we ended up getting back in it with two good goals.

"The first came from a free-kick which McPhee tucked away and then we equalised with a fantastic passing move which Michael Malcolm finished superbly.

"There was then another incident towards the end when Stephen Reed cleared one of their efforts off the line. They were adamant it went in but I could not see from where I was and in the end we held on for 2-2."

The Terras' comeback could be described as a tremendous display of character but Hollins was not in the praising mood.

He said: "The players put us in that predicament in the first place and producing what they did in the second half is what they get paid for.

"What I will say is it is another point on the board and it keeps up our unbeaten record at home which is something I like the sound of. Now we need to move on and prepare for another tough game at Salisbury City on Tuesday night."
