A SPEEDING car narrowly missed oncoming traffic as it dangerously overtook vehicles in Bournemouth.

A taxi driver was left shaken when a 4x4 car smashed into his car and sped away.

Ali Nuri, 42, was travelling in Boundary Road with a passenger towards Bournemouth University when the car struck him on the evening of Saturday, March 16.

“It just came from nowhere in front of me and obviously hit and damaged side of my car,” said Ali.

“You can see it’s driving like 50, 60, 70mph.”

The taxi’s dashcam footage captured the moment the vehicle dangerously overtook traffic before swerving into Ali’s car.

He said after calling 999 he was told it was not an emergency and to contact the non-emergency line.

He said: “I'm absolutely so disappointed.

“The police didn't take this seriously at all.”

Ali added: “I said, this guy is under the influence of some alcohol or some other substance and driving absolutely dangerously, he needs to be stopped before killing someone or injures someone.”

Moments before the collision, pedestrians were seen crossing the road and Ali fears if they had been hit it could have been fatal.

“Imagine if this car hit them, what chance of the survival? They’ve got nothing.”

Due to the speed of the car, Ali was not able to note the registration and has been told by his insurance he must cover the cost of the damage.

Bournemouth Echo: Damage left to Ali's car

“I’ve got a mortgage, I’ve got a family.

“If I give the car back to the insurance, maybe taking months and months back to me, and in the meantime, I don't have any car to drive.

“It's a very difficult situation.”

Police are searching for the vehicle involved and are appealing for any witnesses or dashcam footage.
