Are you the next carnival queen?

TIME is running out in the search for someone to claim the starring role in this summer's Weymouth Carnival.

The Carnival Queen is due to be selected this Friday, and young hopefuls have until Thursday to enter the competition.

As well as pride of place in the town's summer extravaganza, the selected Carnival Queen will also receive a host of prizes, including a holiday to Ibiza, beauty treatments, free hairdressing for a year, £100-worth of New Look vouchers and a year's worth of flower arrangements.

The competition has been organised by charity fundraising group Ladies Alive.

Founder Jo Pattison said: "We've had 33 entries already which is good, and it should be a really great night.

"Anybody can enter, it's so much fun and of course you do a lot for Weymouth and raise money for charity.

"You don't have to be stunning as it's personality as well as looks that count."

To enter the Carnival Queen competition, simply pick up an entry card from the Dorset Echo offices, Banus nightclub or other participating businesses in town and hand it into Banus by Thursday.

The judging will take place on Friday night at Banus from 7.30pm, with people encouraged to come and show their support even if they are not taking part.

The judges will select the final three contenders for the role and there will then be a text vote to decide who will be crowned Carnival Queen at the Carnival Ball in Weymouth Pavilion on August 9.
