STAFF and students are celebrating after Budmouth Technology College received top marks in an Ofsted report.
Inspectors checked the school in nearly 30 areas with half graded as 'outstanding' and the rest as 'good'.
Top grades were awarded in areas such as personal development, wellbeing, care, guidance and support, curriculum and capacity to improve, with 80 per cent of lessons observed rated 'outstanding' or 'good'.
College leadership and management was rated 'very good with excellent leadership' and students had above average attendance levels.
Inspector David Townsend said in a letter to the school: "We believe that your college and its sixth form is good with some excellent features.
"GCSE results are above average and rising and you now make good progress across all year groups from Year 7 to 13.
"You particularly enjoy life at the college and rightly feel it develops you very well as rounded individuals. The level of pastoral care you receive is first rate.
"Teaching and learning across the college and the sixth form are good and some lessons are particularly effective."
He added that students were very well behaved within and beyond lessons and relished the opportunities provided by 'the extensive and flexible curriculum on offer' which he said was 'exemplary'.
He suggested that the college needed closer monitoring of progress towards challenging targets and should ensure teachers followed the same approach to marking and work assessment.
The inspectors described principal David Akers as 'dynamic' and he said he was delighted at the Ofsted findings.
He added: "This is a fantastic report that reflects the huge amount of hard work and commitment put in by both staff and students.
"Budmouth is a college that will always strive for excellence and this report is a celebration of the successes we have achieved and also a confirmation that the college is providing all of our students with a huge range of opportunities and an outstanding educational experience.
"Following this report we will continue to develop our student tracking process to enable all students to achieve their potential."
Governors' chairman Mrs Rose Bruce said: "We are extremely proud that, under the inspirational leadership of the principal, staff and students have achieved a fantastic result following the Ofsted inspection.
"This confirms our belief that Budmouth Technology College is providing our students with every opportunity and good value, making Budmouth the excellent seat of learning that we know it is. We congratulate everyone on this outstanding achievement."
