A ROCK singer is looking for sponsors for a charity gig in memory of his best friend and nan who both died for cancer.
Jamiee Thompson, 22, of rock band Kalinsky is holding the Summer Shudder event in August to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
He said: "I lost my best friend Karina Glynn to cancer when she was 17. That was five years ago this year. Also my nan, Ada Thompson, died 15 years ago of cancer when she was in her 50s.
"This is the first concert, and I'm hoping it will take place once a year."
The two-day festival is taking place on Friday, August 8, and Saturday, August 9, at the Queen's Hotel in Weymouth town centre, opposite the railway station.
Jamiee's own band, for which he is lead singer, will be headlining on the Saturday night, along with The Following Announcement, Donnie Brasco, Fading Within Reason and Lipstick Revolution. On the Friday night London-based band Giants Fall will headline. Other bands include the Weymouth-based Casinos, Dance Party, 8 Days Later and Celcus.
Jamiee, a postman of Weymouth Esplanade, added: "I'm trying to raise a bit of money and do something good. I'm looking for sponsorship from local businesses and anyone who gets involved can have banners or posters up about their business at the festival."
