DORCHESTER Stitchers have been putting their knitting skills to good use by making teddies for children in the third world.
Chairman Rosemary Gameson said she started knitting teddies after a friend got her involved with the national charity Teddies for Tragedies, which collects teddies and sends them to children in deprived and war-torn countries.
When her fellow Stitchers became aware of what she was doing they all got involved and so far they have produced around 35 teddies.
Mrs Gameson said: "Third world doctors take the teddies into hospital for babies to give them something to cuddle.
"They say it helps the babies get better quicker and when they go home they get to take it with them.
"This charity has been set up to send teddies out to the third world and places like Kososvo where children need them."
