CASTING in Weymouth for the film The Boat That Rocked has brought back fond memories for one woman from Wyke Regis.
Maureen Joyce, 56, today told how her sister Nita Rossi appeared often on the pirate radio stations which form the backdrop of the film.
Miss Joyce, of Martleaves Close, said: "I was out in the garden and I suddenly thought about the pirate radio film and the scene in the sixties and I thought maybe they'll play some of her music."
The singer was first discovered by Bournemouth band leader Michael Toome while at school in Boscombe before going on to chart success.
She released four singles - including Untrue Unfaithful, which went to number seven in the chart in 1965.
As casting sessions for extras are held at the Hotel Prince Regent today and tomorrow, Miss Joyce is reminded of her sister becoming the Miss May Queen of Weymouth more than 40 years ago.
She said: "When she came to visit in the 60s her agent heard about the competition and decided to enter her for it and she won."
As the singer has visited Weymouth many times Miss Joyce thinks it would be interesting to have her music included in the film.
She said: "If they play some of the old 60s music in the film it's possible they might play a song from a girl that used to visit Weymouth.
"When she last came to visit three years ago we printed off copies of her news stories at the start of her career so it's interesting that a few years later they've got this film."
Miss Joyce also has a copy of a postcard that Tom Jones sent to her sister while on holiday in Barbados The two singers became friends as they had the same manager, Gordon Mills, who also managed Engelbert Humperdinck.
After Untrue Unfaithful Nita released three more singles and has continued her singing career in Italy to the present day, where Miss Joyce will be visiting her in Piacenza next week for her 60th birthday.
n Casting for extras takes place at the Hotel Prince Regent today and tomorrow from 10am to 5pm. No experience is required but you do need to be over 16 years of age
