TOP Weymouth golfers Jon Bevan and Michael Watson have joined forces at the Wessex Golf Centre.
The talented duo, who are normally used to competing against each other, are providing top-class lessons at the course where a covered driving range is currently under construction.
Bevan said: "We are both down here as players but we are also here to try and increase and enhance the driving range from a lessons point of view.
"Michael is a great addition. We are two of the more high-profile golfers and teachers in the South West and anyone who comes down here to use the covered range when it is completed should benefit."
Bevan enjoyed a fabulous 2007. Not only did he reach the final round of The Open at Carnoustie but he also put on a superb performance for Great Britain & Ireland in their narrow PGA Cup 13.5-12.5 defeat in America.
Watson also had a good year winning plenty of prize money in some big local tournaments as well as finishing third alongside his partner Martyn Thompson in the Glenbrae PGA Fourball Championships, a competition the pair won in 2005 at Hesketh.
Watson said: "I am looking forward to working with Jon. The potential here at the Wessex Golf Centre is massive and Jon is an excellent teacher.
"Weymouth Golf Club will always be part of my life but things were not quite happening there for me, teaching was very quiet and needs must as they say. Jon asked me to come over here and I just could not refuse.
"As I said there is a lot of scope here. With the driving range development scheduled to be completed fairly soon with covered bays and floodlights the potential is massive."
Both players are also expecting to drive each other on in terms of their games out on the course as well as their teaching. Watson said: "We travel to most competitions together anyway and the one thing we both know is that if one of us finishes above the other one that person is generally going to pick up some money.
"I think the fact we have joined forces here at the Wessex will help push us both along and keep us both strong. We get on well and the competition between ourselves is always good."
Bevan agrees, he added: "Michael wants to use his skills in terms of teaching and wants to be in a position and a place where he can play as well and I am sure we will both feed off each other a lot.
"We are good friends and there is a lot of respect between us both in terms of playing and teaching."
