STORMY weather early this morning caused flooding and felled trees across the county and cut power to homes in Verwood.

Commuters faced problems getting to work as several roads were blocked.

A large tree was down blocking a road at Crichel north of Wimborne.

The road was also blocked near Knowlton between the Horton Inn and the Verwood junction.

Meanwhile power to 2,600 homes went off to homes in Verwood. Southern Electric said there had been damage to one of their high voltage underground networks, which affected supply to 2,600 customers in the Manor Way area.

They had their first phone call about the problem from a member of the public at 8.52am. By 10.30am, they had managed to re-route the electricity supply to help 1,000 customers but 1,600 were still without power.

Another tree was down on Locks Lane at Guy's Marsh near Shaftesbury.

A tree was down at St Leonards blocking Matchams Lane at the junction with Boundary Lane.

In Salisbury Road in Burton, Christchurch a tree had fallen down and was blocking the road.

And a large tree was blocking the road between Swanage and Corfe Castle.

In Poole a tree fell onto the pavement on Gravel Hill near Poole Grammar School.

While in North Dorset near Gillingham the A30 between Sherborne and Shaftesbury road was flooded near the East Stour crossroad. And at Cheselbourne the road towards Ansty was blocked by a large tree.

Cole Street Lane in Gillingham was also flooded as was Horton Road in Cranborne.

At Middlemarsh south of Sherborne there was a 2ft deep flooding covering the whole road on the A352 near the turning for Glanvilles Wootton.

Flooding at Leigh near Sherborne was reported to police by a man whose car broke down in the flood.

In Poole South Park Road was closed for flooding.
