Bands back our festive appeal

TWO top Dorset bands will be rocking out later this month for the Dorset Echo Toy Appeal.

The Crack and Jigsaw will take centre stage for the gig in Dorchester's Corn Exchange on November 29.

Organisers Corn Exchange workers Pete Hopkins and Steve Charles hope to raise as much money as possible for the appeal to bring a smile to hundreds of needy children this Christmas.

Mr Hopkins said: "The Dorset Echo Toy Appeal is a fantastic cause and we wanted to do something to support it so we came up with the idea of organising a concert to support it and raise as much money as possible."

He said all the money raised for the appeal will be used to buy toys for children in the area.

"We have been in talks with the Early Learning Centre and they have offered us the chance to buy toys from them with a 25 per cent discount.

"And Dennis Spurr of the Fantastic Sausage Factory is going to produce a special Christmas Sausage and give 50p per pound he sells to the appeal, which is great too.

"It's a good cause and we hope to raise as much money as possible for the appeal."

The Dorset Echo toy appeal is now in its eighth year and helps make Christmas special for youngsters every year.

Thousands of gifts have been collected and distributed among disadvantaged youngsters across the area since the annual appeal was first launched in 2000.

Collection bins have already been distributed across the area and we ask that all gifts are NEW and UNWRAPPED so that they can be matched with children in the correct age group.

We would also ask people not to donate cuddly toys. We get inundated with them and usually have more than we can find homes for. However, all donations - however small - are welcome.

  • Tickets for the concert are on sale for £10 each from various places including the Dorset Echo office in Antelope Walk, Dorchester, The Music Shop, 5 Great George Street, Weymouth and Harmony Music, Dorchester.
