MORE green homes are being lined up for Poundbury.

Poundbury-based developer Cornhill Estates has submitted plans to build seven houses, 10 flats and offices with a further five flats above on land off Peverell Avenue West on the Prince of Wales's model development.

The firm has already built 11 environmentally friendly homes at Poundbury and is applying for permission for a green scheme on Barrack Road in Weymouth.

Now the company has submitted new plans to West Dorset District Council and if approved hopes to make the scheme as carbon neutral as possible.

A statement supporting the application said that the firm is committed to sustainable development.

It said: "We are entirely committed to the principles of sustainable development and have proved on a number of past projects that it is possible to deliver sustainable technology solutions that are both reliable and effective."

Plans for the homes include wood pellet boilers and stoves, heat recovery ventilation systems and rainwater harvesting.

They also plan to use electricity from the proposed Poundbury combined heat and power system, which is being lined up as part of the development of the south west quadrant of the scheme "We intend to make the houses zero carbon for heat using either wood pellet stoves and back boilers or wood pellet boilers. We will make all the boilers zero carbon for electricity using Poundbury's new district biogas CHP system. To achieve zero carbon for electricity for all the buildings we will draw their electricity from the new CHP plant."

The application says that if the plant is not available straight away, power electricity will come from a green energy supplier until it comes on line.

Rainwater will be collected from the roofs to flush toilets and run washing machines and garden taps.

Comments on the scheme can be submitted to West Dorset District Council by November 30.

They could produce electricity from the waste collection unit proposed for Poundbury by processing the waste. Methane produced by rotting waste could be used to generate electricity. This is really 'Green'. (But wait for the cries from the 'NIMBY' gang at Poundbury).
