A MAN aged in his 60s who injured himself during an angling trip was airlifted to hospital.
A rescue operation was launched after the man, who suffers a heart condition, sustained a fall on the boat Bonwey, west of Portland.
Because the coastguard helicopter had to travel from Lee-on-Solent in Hampshire, two lifeboats from Weymouth were also launched as a precaution. A doctor travelled with the lifeboat crew in case the casualty needed urgent medical treatment.
Rescuers were on scene within about half an hour and although the injured man's condition was not as serious as first thought, it was decided he should be flown to Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester, for treatment.
