We think that's all the updates we're going to get for now, but we'll keep the blog open overnight just in case. Thanks for following our coverage.
5:01pm
The fire at the Cliff End was one of three blazes that occured across Dorset this morning.
We've already mentioned the blaze at Lytchett Minster School, but there was also a fire at Spire Hill Farm in North Dorset, which you can find out about here
The most likely cause of the three fires is believed to be lightning strike.
4:56pm
The latest update on the fire at the Cliff End hotel from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service:
We do not now believe that anyone was inside the property. Lightning strike has also not been ruled out for this incident but a full investigation will take place when it is safe to do so.

Another picture taken by Jon Beal earlier today at the derelict hotel
12:11pm
Earlier we spoke to neighbour Rod Pound about the hotel, he said:
“It was an eye-sore before and it is an eye-sore now”
“No one seems to want to do anything with it.
“But the firefighters down there have done a brilliant job, they are heroes.”
11:43am
Here's that footage we mentioned earlier filmed by John Elborn, who saw the entire thing from his flat:
11:28am
Echo photographer Jon Beal took this photo of the damaged roof:
11:26am
We'll have some video footage by neighbour John Elborn online for you very shortly
11:08am
Neighbour John Elborn, 67, of Manor Road, told us how he saw the lightning strike from the window of his flat.
“There was no rain, just a bit flash of lightning and then a huge burst of thunder, it was odd,” he said.
“But the fire didn’t break out straight away, I only came back to the window when my wife spotted the hotel roof was on fire and took a few pictures.
“To be honest I thought it was good news as the building is an eye-sore and a blight on the neighbourhood.”
11:05am
Fire incident manager Karen Adams has confirmed that the cause of the blaze, which has destroyed the roof in the main building of the hotel, is believed to have been a lightning strike.
She said six fire crews used five hose reel jets and an aerial platform to extinguish the fire by about 8.15am.
“There was no one in the building when we arrived and there is quite a lot of damage, and this building has been derelict for a number of years, so it is hard to say how it happened,” she said.
“When the main fire was put out using the platform the crews went into the building using breathing apparatus. They are dealing with the remaining hot spots.”
10:34am
A lightning stike is also believed to be the cause of the fire at Lytchett Minster School, which firefighters are still dealing with.
10:13am
Firefighters are still at the scene but the fire is now out. We'll keep you posted with more updates as we get them.
10:12am
We've just been finding out from our reporter Will Frampton what the current situation is. Will says the fire is believed to have been started by a lightning strike at around 6am this morning.
10:09am
Our traffic feed is reporting Christchurch Road has reopened but Manor Road is closed and Derby Road is still affected.
9:32am
Here's some video Corin took of the fire, which began at around 6am.
9:19am
9:18am
Echo photographer Corin Messer took this picture of firefighters attending to the blaze earlier this morning
9:16am
The fire was centred around the central part of the building. Manor Road has been cordoned off and a barrier has been erected to keep the public back.
9:14am
We'll have a video online for you very shortly
9:13am
Boscombe's derelict Cliff End hotel was ablaze this morning. This is the first of two fires to occur in Dorset overnight. Around 50 firefighters are currently attending a blaze at Lytchett Minster School. You can follow our live coverage here

As a council tax payer I'd have been happy for the council to have done something with it and I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that. Such a shame.

To be honest I'm surprised it's taken this long for this to happen. This place has been derelict and boarded up for years and has been used as a 'den' by druggies and teenagers for a long while, and I'm surprised that no one has been badly injured or even killed in this place.
It should have been demolished years ago - why hasn't it? Thankfully the fire will have destroyed most of the internal structure so it won't be used in this way again. A blessing.
The original building was lovely and of interest.
Demolishing buildings and replacing them with concrete lego blocks is far from a blessing

Also it IS a blessing in the context of what I was saying - i.e. that the fire has removed the danger of anyone being fatally injured in the building as it was being used inappropriately.

best thing that could have happened to the building.
Let's hope it is totally destroyed.

So God does exist !!. We were only discussing the debate on BBC last Night between Richard Dorkyn and the Chief Rabbi of the Jewish faith about the meaning of 'God' and lo and behold the next day the Cliff End Hotel is struck by lightening

I do not think for one moment that a lightening bolt caused this fire, id bet everything that this is arson pure and simple, obviously i would not suggest that the current oners have committed arson, but across the country where buildings do not get the required planning consents the buildings are left to rot, so thateven local residents so angered by having a monstrosity on their doorsteps end up backing any development rather than have the ugly building on their doorstep, so now a new build will get planning consent and the whole structure will be torn down massively increasing the buildings value, the owners should be forced to pay a fine to the council for allowing this building (Built for H Samuel ) to become such a blot on the landscape, the problem is many owners will allow the buildings to decay until they get the consents THEY want they no that residents end up telling the council do something give them permission for something rather than look at this horror on our doorsteps, someone caused this fire on purpose could be anyone at all local resident etc lightening my ****

But i agree with mum its a danger and should be pulled down There was planning permission applied to pull it down and build flats before it got closed but i believe the council rejected it

We purchased the lease with a view to developing the property. Since the purchase every obstacle possible has been put in our way by the freeholder Meyrick Estates. Without this obstruction we have no doubt that the property would have been well on its way to being redeveloped. During our time as leaseholders we have tried to make the site as secure and unattractive to intruders as possible but nothing can make a sight fully secure from those totally determined to break in.
The legal obstacles placed in our path to stop us from developing by Meyrick Estates are a matter of public record.
The preferred concept was to remove the flat end extensions and develop around the Victorian Core. Generally the preferred option. (This may now have to be reviewed.)
The Council have always been supportive of this type of development and a design statement has been prepared to this effect.
We hope that this latest incident will prove to be a catalyst in the redevelopment of such an important site site so that it can once again contribute to the local community.

It's good to see developers not wanting to pull down buildings of interest just to be replaced with lego blocks.
Good luck.

I should imagine it was a boat strike (they can do an enormous amount of damage) - and it might also explain why no one saw anything either.
