Three rescued from floodwater

DORSET Fire and Rescue Service is warning the public not to drive into floodwater unless they know how deep it is and can get through it following two incidents where they had to rescue people.

In Burton today (Christmas Eve) two people were rescued after their car got stuck in six inches of floodwater in Waterditch Road. Firefighters waded in and pushed the car to dry land.

In Blandford, an elderly man was rescued by firefighters after his mobility scooter got trapped in floodwater at the rear of the Co-op in Langton Road. The man was lifted from the scooter by two firefighters and carried to safety, while another firefighter pushed the vehicle to safety.

Two people in six inches of water had to rely on the fire brigade to rescue them, what is the world coming too, was the H.S.E involved in this fiasco.

It easy to gauge the depth of water just see how far the water comes up on the ducks

Have to agree with the others, fire brigade to rescue a car in 6 inches of water was a huge waste of resources!

About time charges were levied against idiots with too few brain cells calling out emergency services instead of the RAC or similar. If folk are too stupid to stop for deep water and fail to insure against breakdowns, they should not be permitted to use an emergency service that quite possibly could be saving a life somewhere.

I totally agree with you and I can see you feel quite strongly about this story but no need to say it four times.

Bit of a clue in the name of the road there that it might have been prone to flooding-Waterditch Road-I ask you.
Come on Daily Echo-name and shame.

This story is quite alarming in that people can honestly sit inside their cars and wait to be rescued from 6 inches of water!!!

It's about time the rescue services put a stop to silly and pointless call outs without handing them a bill for £100 ...... I would bet they'd soon get their little tootsies wet then rather than dip their hand in their pockets. Lazy pathetic specimins!

I have been watching a tv series called "The Borrowers" and let me tell you that 6" of water to them would have been catostrophic !! So lets not jump to conclusions eh??

Waterditch has never flooded like it has this year . I was going to my mums who lives in burton but her road was closed off due to flooding most of the lanes were ok so we decided to go that way until we got to the junction of Preston lane and Waterditch . The floods were ridiculously deep that the water was running from Waterditch straight across to Preston lane which was then going onto Salisbury road etc. someone got out of a car and walked into the water at Waterditch ( bit stupid of you ask me ) but the water was half way up his thigh bone
