BREAKING NEWS: Blandford Road re-opens to northbound traffic

THERE was relief for drivers on Sunday evening when Poole's Blandford Road re-opened to northbound traffic.

Emergency sewer repairs near Turlin Moor had left a stretch of the road closed since Thursday.

The work had combined with roadworks on the Upton Bypass to make travelling a misery for residents commuters through Hamworthy.

But Wessex Water said the road remained closed southbound for water supply work.

A statement from the company said: "Blandford Road, Poole, has this evening (Sunday) re-opened northbound following emergency sewer repairs.

"Wessex Water worked throughout the weekend and during the night to carry out the work.

"The road remains closed southbound for the ongoing water supply work."

Wessex Water seem to dig up this section of road frequently, is this going to be the final fling or will this inconvenience continue in future years.
Years ago when 'emergency repairs' were undertaken the contractor would work seven days a week, day and night to reduce the inconvenience to the tax payer/voter. This could be done by Wessex Water and the works on the Upton Bypass, why is this not the case?
Obviously the two operations occuring at the same time was overlooked by both Poole Borough and the Highways Authority because having worked in other County Authorities myself I know that they have proceedures to prevent this from occuring, so either this was a deliberate decision or an incompetance. Now a days it is fashionable for authorities to deny any such incompetance which I personally find even more insulting. In this case, however, they have shown us that they concider that we should accept that this mayhem is acceptable which is it not.
Now obviously the local M.P. clearly has no handle on the situation (too busy with the free lunches) so any challenging M.P. take note, if you want my vote tell me that your going to be the one that will ensure this wont happen in the future and I may get off my backside and vote for you.

Although the Blandford Road has re-opened northbound, I fail to see why it still has to remain one way before the railway bridges. Surely we should be allowed to access Lidl and Turlin Moor using the road in both directions? All the workings are after the Turlin Moor Junction.

cooperman1,

Unfortunately Poole Council, Dorset Council and the Highways Agency are inept at basic project management principles. With regards to coordinating major works at different times, well that just will not happen as they do not communicate with one another.

Furthermore Wessex Water are a private company that is loyal only to profit and EU/Government targets. They are not interested in any inconveniences suffered by thousands of motorists and losses to any other businesses in the area.

With regards to MP’s sorting it out, well they won’t. They have been elected and do not care, just like the clowns in power at the moment.
