Alert over missing walker

RESCUERS were alerted after a walker reported losing his brother on a coastal footpath.

The pair were walking between Lulworth and Swanage early yesterday when one walked on ahead of the other.

When one of the men arrived at Swanage and could not find his brother yesterday evening he raised the alarm.

The coastguard helicopter, coastguard rescue teams and police joined the hunt for the missing coastwalker, who was last seen at around 3.30pm.

He was later located safe and well in Swanage.

Portland Coastguard watch manager Maddy Davey said: "We are pleased that we were able to locate this man and reunite him with his brother.

"We would like to remind people that when undertaking this activity, always have a time and rendezvous location in the event that you become separated."

Elsewhere yesterday rescuers were alerted to reports of an ill-equipped dinghy, with three people on board, in difficulty in Portland Harbour.

Coastguards kept watch on the trio until they made it ashore and gave them safety advice.
