A 21-YEAR-OLD Polish man died in yesterday's horror crash in which a car appeared to flee from police in Boscombe, it has been revealed.

The vehicle, a silver Vauxhall Vectra, flipped on to its roof after veering into a wall outside Fernwood Court on Christchurch Road at around 1.30am.

The man was killed and the other occupant, also Polish, and aged 32, is now fighting for his life in Poole Hospital.

The tragedy comes just eight days after another Polish man was killed in a crash on the A338.

Police said the Vectra had driven away from them in Centenary Way, behind the Sovereign Centre, but had lost sight of it and were not following it at the time of the collision.

A spokeswoman told the Daily Echo: "The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, as is normal in these circumstances."

Because of the IPCC investigation, Dorset Police would not reveal why they were interested in the vehicle or why the car had swerved into the wall.

The Vectra was registered to a Bournemouth man.

One witness described how he saw the two occupants of the car lying in the road with "massive injuries".

The 35-year-old man said: "It was carnage, a really nasty sight."

Colin Partridge, 38, a resident of Fernwood Court, said: "I heard a very large thud and then metal crunching.

"There were two people outside the car and it looked like they had been thrown out."

A resident of Beaumont Court, opposite the site of the collision, said: "I heard screeching and skidding, then a thump and a bang. It was horrendous - they must have been going very fast."

A Christchurch Road resident said: "We saw one lad in the centre of the road and the other near where the car hit the wall.

"We came to the conclusion the men had no chance."

Christchurch Road was closed at its junctions with Knole Road and Drummond Road shortly after the accident.

Traffic was diverted down Warncliff Road before the road was fully reopened at 8.30am.

A post-mortem examination on the 21-year-old is due to take place and the coroner has been informed. Both men were Bournemouth residents, though neither had family in England.

Another Polish man, Tomasz Zyla, died in an accident on the A338 Spur Road last week.

The Polskie Echo, the Polish newspaper based in Bournemouth, is organising a collection for the victims' families and the man in hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
