STRIKER Stuart Beavon shot down Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium last night to move Weymouth into second spot in the Blue Square Premier table.

The 24-year-old netted the only goal of the game on 17 minutes to ensure the Terras continued the tremendous form that inspired Saturday's opening day success over Grays Athletic, and boss John Hollins could not hide his delight.

He said: "We started off like we did against Grays. We kept the ball well and our fans were magnificent. There were around 160 of them and they were noisy right from the start.

"Some of the football we played was great and the goal was tremendous. The build up play that led to it was fantastic and I cannot wait to see it again on the television.

"We rode our luck a little bit at times but we kept playing and the goalkeeper and the back four were excellent. Scott Doe had to come off for about five minutes needing two stitches in a head wound but we eventually got him back on again and we went with the same side.

"We then brought on Pierre Joseph-Dubois and James Coutts in the second half when Oxford began to find a few holes and it worked like a dream."

Hollins admitted earlier in the week that he still had reservations about his side's open and attacking mindset but it seems he is beginning to come around.

He added: "I said the other day that I did not know whether we would be able to continue playing the same style but we went for it from the start again and I think it surprised them and gave them something to think about. It is the type of football that people want to see and I think the crowd enjoyed it. We look like a team and it is very exciting."

When asked whether he has been surprised by just how quick his side has gelled, Hollins said: "Not really. We have worked hard on things and it is the players that have done it.

"They have got their heads down and we are all enjoying it.

"During training and out on the pitch it is all very serious but we are also having a laugh as well and the spirit in the camp at the moment is fantastic.

"As soon as the lads knew they had won they were all up as a team cheering in front of our fans.

"Yes, it is only two games but you have to enjoy these moments and we are all now looking forward to going to Stevenage Borough on Saturday."
