EASTENDERS will feature footage of its Weymouth visit at the end of this week.

Barbara Windsor, Samantha Janus, Rita Simons and Robert Kazinsky caused a stir among residents when they hit the beach in April for five days of filming.

Their four characters - Peggy, Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell and Sean Slater - can be seen in the town in two episodes - on Thursday, July 10 and Friday, July 11.

The popular soap, which has an average of 10 million viewers, wrote Weymouth into the storyline after EastEnders' producers scrapped plans to shoot a series of special episodes in Spain due to budget cuts.

The television crews filmed scenes at the beach, the Esplanade and the harbour.

A large carousel was also erected on the beach close to the swing boats.

During the stars' visit Mr Kazinsky, 24, proved himself to be a heartthrob when crowds of women wolf-whistled at him on the sea front.

His image was enhanced when, off-screen, he was reported to have tackled a homeless man who smashed a window in Dorchester.

The actor was said to have yelled at the man after he broke the window of a building with a bin.

It was reported that police were called to a pub where the actor and co-star Ms Simons, 31, were taking a break from filming.

On-screen, however, the storylines to be shown next week remain tightly under wraps.

Councillor Geoff Petherick, spokesman for economic development for Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, said: "From my point of view, provided they demonstrate what a wonderful place Weymouth is to live with lots of regeneration going on ahead of the Olympics in 2012, I'll be happy.

"I remember lots of sunny days and the crowds when they were filming so I'm sure Weymouth will be shown in its best light.

"Our publicity unit was very helpful in terms of helping sort out accommodation and areas being closed off.

"This type of publicity is good for the area."
