Jake aims to peg back dad’s team
PROUD dad Shaun Lilley will have a foot in both camps when son Jake bids to help Hampshire Academy lower Bashley's colours at Bashley Road tomorrow.
Emerging talent Jake progressed through the ranks at the New Forest club before he was invited to join the cream of the county's young crop last season.
The 16-year-old paceman, who attends Arnewood School and still plays for Bashley colts, returns to his roots to make his third top-flight appearance for the Academy.
And father Shaun, who captains Bashley seconds, is keen to see Jake play a starring role on his home patch - but also end up on the losing side.
"I'm hoping for a Bashley win and a Jake Lilley five-for!" he quipped, when asked for a score prediction by the Daily Echo.
"Jake's really looking forward to it. He's not a full academy member but he's signed for them and plays as and when they want him. He played last week and was selected again this week, which put a big smile on his face."
Jake has made excellent strides since starting out as a seven-year-old at New Milton before following his dad to Bashley in 2001.
"He's played cricket with most of the Bashley lads at one time or another and is friendly with most of them," added Shaun. "He might get a bit of stick, especially if he bats!"
Bashley, who were skittled for 74 in their five-wicket defeat at South Wilts six days ago, are boosted by the return of Dorset opener Glyn Treagus who was unavailable for their curtain-raiser.
Bashley: Sexton, Treagus, Thurgood, Jones, Friedman, Neal, West, Cass, Waller, Nash, King.
RIDLEY CALLED IN
BOURNEMOUTH have bolstered their bowling resources for the Chapel Gate clash with St Cross Symondians - despite routing Hursley Park for just 64 in their seasonal opener.
Skipper Craig de Weymarn, who has drafted in right-arm seamer Simon Ridley, said: "We just felt we were a bit short in terms of our bowling if someone got injured or if someone was having a bad day. Simon has been with the club for a few years and has been knocking on the door for a while. He's wanted his chance for a long time and perhaps it's a bit overdue.
"I think he'll do very well."
Bournemouth: de Weymarn, Wainwright, Taylor, Cowley, Prichard, Park, Mather, Watkins, Denham, Payne, Ridley.
EDGELL INCLUDED
NEW Milton have strengthened their batting options by including Ben Edgell for the trip to Division Two rivals Havant II.
Skipper Ryan Beck said: "We've gone with an extra batsman because we've got eight bowlers any way."
He added: "Havant are normally pretty strong and their gold league side is awesome.
"But we are full of optimism after last week's win against Hook and Newnham Basics."
New Milton: R Beck, L Beck, Wheeler, Gargaro, Whitehurst, Fotheringham, Adlem, Loader, Griffiths, Linge, Edgell.
BROTHERS RETURN
BROTHERS Bryn and Adam Darbyshire return for Lymington's Sports Ground showdown with all-conquering Division Two big guns Ventnor.
Lymington skipper Adie Hunt is expecting a stern test against the Isle of Wight outfit, which has claimed the title for the past four years.
Hunt, who saw his side's opener at Rowledge fall foul of the weather, said: "Playing them at home should give us a good opportunity to see how the season might pan out for us."
Lymington: A Hunt, Pain, Newton, O'Shannessy, Grierson, Kelly, B Darbyshire, A Darbyshire, Barton, Harvey, Naylor.
