ORGANISERS of the Universal Big Gig Rowing Regatta are delighted with a sponsorship boost from a Weymouth engineering company.
Universal Engineering of the Granby Industrial Estate is backing the Weymouth Rowing Club's forthcoming regatta. The event is one of the opening events of the Spirit of the Sea maritime festival, which will attract around 45 gigs and crews to the borough for seven races, plus heats, over the weekend of July 5-6.
Rowing club spokesman Sally Harris said Universal Engineering's sponsorship will help to provide camping facilities, parking, event safety, publicity, race co-ordination and coverage, shower and toilet facilities, trophies and medals.
Fundraising for the regatta will continue with a Beat the Gig' event on Saturday, June 7 at 6.30pm, the aim being to beat the gigs as they row across Weymouth Bay.
Entry forms can be downloaded from weymouthrowingclub.org or by calling 01305 779590.
