STARSTRUCK movie lovers could find themselves in front of the camera in a blockbuster movie that is soon to be filmed on Portland.

The makers of the $70 million film The Boat That Rocked are on the hunt for men and women to play a variety of roles as extras for their film - and casting sessions will be held next weekend.

The new British film about rock n' roll on the high seas will be filmed in Portland Harbour and is expected to boost the local economy by more than £1 million.

The Boat That Rocked is a new comedy film by award-winning director Richard Curtis, who is best known for Four Weddings And A Funeral and Love Actually.

The famous cast includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Kenneth Branagh, Rhys Ifans and Nick Frost, who all play pirate radio DJs.

The film is inspired by the British pirate radio revolution in the 1960s, which blasted rock and pop from ships 24 hours a day.

The majority of the filming will take place on a boat in Portland Harbour, and street shots set in the 1960s will be filmed in Castletown.

An open casting session will be held on Saturday April 12 and Sunday April 13 in Weymouth where producers will chose a number of extras.

Communication manager for Weymouth and Portland Borough Council Jacqui Gisborne said: "This could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to appear in a major British film.

"I would urge everyone to attend the casting and let's make it not just a British film but a Weymouth and Portland film as well."

No experience is required but would be extras must be aged 16 years and above.

Extras will receive a daily rate of £80 per adult per day and the filming will be on location in the Portland area in May.

The casting session will run from 10am to 5pm at the Hotel Prince Regent, on The Esplanade, Weymouth.
