James the first in Arrow race
JAMES Gilfillan (Primera) took his first win of the season winning the Bournemouth Arrow CC's popular Good Friday 10 mile time trial with a time of 21:58.
Gilfillan's time was all the more impressive given that he has not raced for some time. Another top local time triallist Max Baldock (Poole Wheelers) was third with a time of 22:38.
"I was both pleased and surprised to do so well in my first race out," said Gilfillan, who works for the Borough of Poole.
Many will be surprised to learn that time trialling is not Gilfillan's top priority this year, as he has entered the World Ironman Championships that takes place this year at Switzerland in July.
Gilfillan's next race is the EDCA hilly 24m event where he will be trying to repeat his 2006 victory, with Paul Jones (Jubilee) the 2007 victor also riding.
GARDINER'S WOOL WIN
Easter Sunday saw the Bournemouth Jubilee's hilly 42km event held on the undulating Wool circuit with the victory going to long distance specialist Nik Gardiner (John's Bikes).
Gardiner's time of 1:03:38 was enough to better Isle of Wight resident Dave Dent (Wightlink, 1:04:10) and local rider Paul Jones (Bournemouth Jubilee, 1:05:44).
Jones led the Jubilee to victory in the team award with team-mates Robert Jefferies and Mark Bloomfield contributing while Rebecca Evans was the first female finisher in 26th place.
LAKE SUCCESS STOREY
Sarah Storey (VC St Raphael) took first place in the opening round of the national Rudy Pro-ject time trial series at Bassen-thwaite Lake recording a time of 38:15 around the 15.3 mile course.
Daniel Lloyd (An Post/Sean Kelly Team) rode to another top result in Europe placing in 28th place at the 63rd Dwars door Vlaanderen, 44 seconds behind Frenchman Sylvain Chavanel.
