You can be a ranger for the day
COUNTRYSIDE enthusiasts are being given the chance to try out a day in the life of a volunteer ranger.
Dorset Countryside is organising a week of Try It days across the county to show people how they can become more involved in managing the countryside.
Running from October 20 to 28, the week starts with a day of practical woodland management at Thorncombe Wood near Dorchester.
Other Try It days will allow people to work on Dorset's coast path, survey countryside footpaths and have a go carrying out wildlife habitat improvements.
The new volunteer ranger service is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund Dorset Countryside.
Hilary Cox, the council's environment spokesman, said: "Dorset residents love our outstanding countryside. This is an opportunity for people to do something practical to help - and keep themselves fit and active at the same time."
