A Polish woman is recovering after being robbed at knifepoint by hoodie thugs in Parkstone.

Two men attacked the 19-year-old, who was visiting friends, as she got off a bus in Ashley Road around 10.15pm on Sunday.

She was stopped, asked for the time then threatened with a knife and ordered to hand over her money.

After her ordeal the frightened teen - who has asked not to be identified - stumbled back to her Parkstone hotel to raise the alarm.

Police say she was not physically hurt but was left shaken by the incident.

Detectives are not treating the attack as racially motivated but it comes a week after a Syrian-born man was attacked in nearby Winton by thugs who snarled "you're not English".

It also follows news of a mini-exodus back to Poland by hundreds of migrants who say the UK's spiralling crime rate and anti-Polish feeling make the country a poor choice to live in and work.

Friends and family are still in mourning following the death of Magda Pniewska, 26, who was shot dead on her way home from work last week in south London.

But Arek Narciszek, editor and founder of the newspaper The Polish Courier, said: "I don't think violence is a particular problem for the Polish community in Bournemouth.

"Sometimes we hear of crimes affecting the community but there are lots of different nationalities in this area and crime can affect anyone.

Detective Constable John Oldfield, who is leading the robbery investigation, said: "I am interested in hearing from anyone who saw or heard any suspicious, unusual or out of the ordinary activity in the area around the time of the robbery - and from anyone who recognises the descriptions of the two men."

Both are around 25 years old, 6ft, wearing black padded jackets with hoods. One man had very short hair and wore large earrings.
