THE rainforests with their massive trees and the small wildlife to be found there was brought vividly to life for youngsters at a Rainforest Roadshow held at Portland Tophill Library.

Zoologist Matt Graveling, a ZooLab Ranger based at Southampton, fascinated his young audience with his account of the lifecycle of the animals and he had them really concerned when he spoke of the deforestation that is being carried out.

Matt had taken along a number of small animals including a snake, a tarantula, scorpions and a hissing cockroach which, apart from the tarantula and the cockroaches, the children could handle.

The young zoologist visits schools and libraries catering for the two to 14-year-olds.
